Part of our work and mission at YorubaName.com is to incorporate African language content into the online space. To do that, we encourage people speaking African languages as first, second or even third languages to also write these languages and use them to interact online. But this can’t happen if the tools are not there. Many languages on the continent are tonal yet most of the software and hardware tools we have were not developed with tone-marking capabilities or users like you in mind. The little we find are either not easy to use due to complicated keystrokes, not easy to access because of where they are produced, or not affordable to the common man who just wants to write an email or a text in his native language.
It is for this reason that we have released these keyboard layouts for Mac and Windows which you can download and begin to use within minutes. They complement the normal British English keyboard so users can do their usual English typing, as well as type texts in other languages.
